Major cast cuts expected for daytime soaps

According to industry insiders, the remaining four soap operas may be sending quite a few cast members packing.

Will the daytime world soon be looking more like the horror genre? That seems to be the case, as word on the street is that broadcasters have asked soap opera producers to take a chainsaw to their character counts.

"Insiders say a couple of daytime soaps will be slimming down their top-heavy casts due to network mandates," states the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest. "Sources report that a number of actors are concerned that they may wind up on the unemployment line in the coming weeks."

While it's unclear at this time which soaps will be experiencing major cuts, fans have voiced their opinion that General Hospital in particular has quite a large cast that could benefit from a slim down. But that doesn't mean The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Days of our Lives are exempt from the rumored slashing. It seems all the series are potentially headed toward the cast chopping block, and it's only a matter of time before viewers see where the pieces fall.

What do you think about the possibility of daytime dramas making mincemeat of their casts? And which characters do you think your favorite soap could do without? Share your thoughts in our Comments section below, on our message boards, or by submitting Feedback.
