New year brings new highs for all soaps except DAYS

Ratings prove that 2015 is off to a rocking good start for General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless -- but it's off to a rocky start for Days of our Lives.

2015's New Year's celebration may be over, but there's still cause to pop more champagne: The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital have all seen spectacular ratings boosts since the beginning of the year.

According to Nielsen Live Plus Same Day ratings, The Young and the Restless drew in 5,110,000 viewers during the week of January 5 through January 9 -- up 66,000 from the previous week. Meanwhile, The Bold and the Beautiful managed to score 4,045,000 viewers that same week -- a 162,000 increase that was no doubt due to the emotional quadrangle between Rick (Jacob Young), Maya (Karla Mosley), Caroline (Linsey Godfrey), and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye).

General Hospital also managed to draw in quite a respectable audience of 3,119,000 viewers -- a 119,000 increase from the previous week.

Unfortunately, though Days of our Lives featured exciting scenes in which Will (Guy Wilson) cheated on Sonny (Freddie Smith) with Paul (Christopher Sean), it was the only daytime drama to slide in the ratings. The NBC soap only pulled in 2,452,000 -- 42,000 less than the previous week.

Are you surprised by the recent ratings? Which shows do you consider "can't miss," and which are "must miss?" If the latter, what do you think can be done to improve the ratings? Share your thoughts in our Comments section below, on our message boards, or by submitting Feedback.
