Alexis Thorpe (Cassie DiMera) has confirmed that she will be exiting Days of our Lives later this fall.
"Unfortunately I have some sad news. The rumors you have been hearing are true, I am leaving the show," Thorpe said in a statement. "I was told that my character will fall victim to our serial killer."
Thorpe's exit will follow in the footsteps of established DAYS veterans James Reynolds (Abe Carver) and Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux). New head writer James E. Reilly is believed to have established the serial killer storyline as a way to establish an umbrella story (one that encompasses many different characters) and also pare down the cast to remove non-essential characters. The cast cutting is also seen as a way to reduce the show's costs.
Prior to joining Days of our Lives, Thorpe appeared as Rianna Miner on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless from October 2000 to February 2002. Thorpe announced her exit from Y&R after being bumped to recurring status in late 2001.
"I am disappointed [at leaving DAYS] because I love my job, the cast and crew I work with," Thorpe reflected. "[T]he thing that I find saddest though is that I am going to have a hard time saying goodbye to my character of Cassie. I have cherished every day that I have been able to play this character, and I am sad that we won't see other sides of her."
A final airdate has not been determined. A spokesperson for Days of our Lives had no comment for this article.
