General Hospital viewers who were looking forward to the scheduled return of Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) later this summer will have to wait a little longer because the actress isn't returning as originally planned.
Hughes, who took a long summer vacation and last aired at the beginning of July, has decided to extend her time off from the ABC series, Soaps In Depth reports. Now, instead of reappearing in Port Charles in late August as originally planned, she's more likely to return later this fall.
This isn't the first time Hughes has taken an extended break from GH. She left for a significant period of time in 2015 to film the movie The Byrd and the Bees, which ultimately was never released due to financial issues.
For fans who might be worried that the actress isn't interested in returning to GH this time around, rest assured that she will indeed be back. The show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, announced last year that Hughes (and Genie Francis who plays Laura) had signed a new contract and will "continue to make General Hospital [her] home for years to come."
Plus, Hughes's potential on-screen love interest was recently sidelined in real life when Anthony Montgomery (Andre Maddox) suffered a "torn meniscus, ligament sprains, and some other fun stuff."
