Dirty Soap will not return for a second season

Soap fans won't get another chance to peer into the off-screen lives of their favorite soap stars. The E! reality series, Dirty Soap, will not be back for a second season.

Soap fans' dreams of seeing another season of the reality series, Dirty Soap, have just been washed down the drain. Though the network has yet to issue a statement, one of the show's co-stars, Jenna Gering, has informed fans that the E! network has decided not to move forward with plans for a second season.

"So the word is that Dirty Soap is NOT being picked up for another season," Gering said on Twitter. "Thanks to all of you who watched. You all have been so supportive!"

When asked by a follower why the reality series would not be picked up for another run, Gering stated that it came down to the age-old problem plaguing many television shows: the ratings.

"Apparently E! needed a million viewers for that Sunday time slot," Gering explained, noting that Dirty Soap averaged a .8 rating.

After several years of being replaced by reality series, Dirty Soap was an attempt by the daytime community to embrace the reality format and, hopefully, lure new viewers to daytime. It's unclear if that mission was accomplished.

Dirty Soap was the brainchild of former All My Children stars Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan) and Mark Consuelos (Mateo Santos). The series followed the off-screen lives of soap stars Brandon Beemer (Owen Knight, The Bold and the Beautiful), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane, Days of our Lives), Farah Fath (Gigi Morasco, One Life to Live), Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez, DAYS), John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex Balsom, OLTL), Kelly Monaco (Samantha McCall, General Hospital), and Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones, GH).
