Due to the New Year's holiday, Days of our Lives did not air. On behalf of everyone at Soap Opera Central, I would like to thank all of the visitors who have come to our site in 2000. You have made 2000 our most successful year --- and we're hoping to repeat that accomplishment in 2001 with your help. We've got a lot of special things planned for the year ahead and we hope that you will join us.

Jan and Mimi sneak into school and proceed to install a hidden camera in the girls locker room. A guard almost catches them but they manage to finish their task. Chloe fights back the tears as Philip admits that he loves her. She confesses that she's been having trouble getting to sleep lately and surmises it's because of him. Chloe also admits that when she tormented Jan with the rat, she felt afraid of what she was capable of doing. He assures her that she can call him anytime she's afraid and then serenades her with a poem he wrote for her. She thanks him with a kiss. Bo and Hope have fun cutting their wedding cake. Belle and Shawn return to the ice-skating with a piece of cake. After sharing a dance, the two fall to the ice where Shawn spots the can they tossed into the river months ago. Meanwhile, Hope gives her bouquet to Alice after explaining she promised Jennifer she wouldn't throw it to her. Hope then goes on to thank Alice for all she has taught her since she was a little girl. Jennifer and the others are touched by Hope's gentle words. Abby asks about her father and Jennifer assures her daughter that she'll see him soon. Shawn asks Bo for his pick axe and heads to the ice followed by a curious Abe and Lexie. He starts chipping away at the ice to retrieve the can only to find a hand clutching it. Belle screams out as Lexie and Abe arrive.
The show opened with a replay of Austin doing away with the first gladiator. He was told that he has to fight the remaining two at the same time. When Greta cries out that it is not fair....2 against 1...Charles agrees, then makes all of Austin's weapons disappear. Greta prays, and Austin delivers a couple of karate kicks, and more or less boxes with them both....even managing to eventually defeating the two of them. Charles is not happy about this, and announces time for Phase 2. Despite protests from Greta and her mother, there is another opponent. Austin looks up, and there stands something that looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon
Brandon and Sami argue with Angela about Brandon's treatment of his mother. Sami tells Brandon how Angela gave Moroni the tape, and Brandon manages to make Angela feel very guilty after reminding her how upset she got with the way he treated his mother and then giving the tape away that might help reunite Will from his mother. They argue long and loud about it, Angela feels remorseful and says she will leave town and will go pack now. Brandon sees the Moroni limo, and sweet talks Angela, declaring his love for her. Moroni calls Angela to come talk in the limo, and she promises Brandon she will get the tape back. Moroni refuses to give the tape back to Angela and she pressures him. Suddenly, he seems to be having a heart attack, so Angela orders the driver to take them to the hospital, presto! Brandon & Sami only see the car quickly drive off.
Replay of Shawn chopping the ice and discovery of Marlo's body. Shawn takes the mystery can. He tells Belle the river empties into the canal, so that is how the can must have traveled. Bo & Hope hear the commotion and screams and Bo goes to investigate. Philip and Chloe come over, but Abe tells everyone to get back being it's a police scene. Chloe seems fascinated by the discovery of what she calls "The Lady in the Lake", but Belle is very upset and leaves with Shawn. Chloe tells Philip that hearing Lexie's scream at the moment of Philip's declaration of love seems to be an omen that their relationship is doomed. Abe, Bo and Lexie mention there is no way to tell if male or female, and Abe calls the police station to report the discovery and request an investigative team. He is told someone "on active duty" has to authorize this, and Bo takes the phone to do so.
Bo picks Hope up and is just about ready to take her inside when they hear screaming from the ice. He tells her to stay with JT while he runs out to investigate. He joins the group to see the body in the ice. Belle is cold, so Shawn takes her up to the tent to warm up. They find Hope cuddling JT, who is still wearing the tux and tell her about finding the body. We see Belle and Hope drinking hot chocolate in the kitchen and talking about ice-skating. Belle tells her how they were all having so much fun with the wedding and the skating...and then things change so fast. She then compares this to Brady, and talks about him and his accident, and how it changed things. Belle confides to Hope, how much she cared about Brady, and the special relationship they have, which she always kept rather private. She tells Hope about Marlena and how she treats Brady. Hope is surprised at this, but gives Belle a pep talk and comforts her. Hope knows that Marlena is dealing with other issues as well, but can't tell Belle what they are. Shawn arrives with a blanket to put around Belle, when Philip and Chloe arrive. They talk about the mystery can, and how it has "come back" to them. Flashbacks among the teens to Jan getting her hand cut on the can, Shawn throwing it in the river. Belle wants to throw it away, but Chloe says no, and Shawn agrees. They decide they have to get the Sanskrit writing on it interpreted. Bo arrives, but Shawn only says he started chopping ice cause he saw this soda can glinting through the ice, and it was a dumb thing to do.
Abe and Lexie come in, saying the coroner has arrived, and is waiting for forensics. Abe mentions to Bo about the legs of the body...as they both agree it looked as if something was tied to one of them. Lexie flashes back to seeing Marlo dead on the floor at Stefano's, and questioning her father about his disposal of it. She has a frightened look on her face.
Though Austin is zapped by the hideous monster and falls to the ground with a fatal wound to his chest, Greta congratulates him on passing every test and miraculously heals him. Suddenly, the two are transformed back into reality and find themselves in the castle in front of a roaring fire. Ingrid Mitchell enters the room and explains that they have passed the test. She announces that she is here to help prepare Greta for her coronation. Austin decides to call Sami back in Salem. Hope and Bo head to their bedroom where they prepare to make love. He assures her that the appearance of a dead body during their wedding reception is not an omen. Back at home, Abe is reminded of Marlo and when he suggests that they try to find her, Lexie quickly dismisses the idea. Abe receives a call from the coroner about the "Jane Doe" and is surprised when Lexie refers to the woman's death as a murder. He states that her cause of death has not been decided yet and mentions that a forensic artist will put together a rendition of the woman's face. After Nicole calls to let Brandon know that she's divorcing Lucas, he suggests to Sami that they get married. Surprised by his proposal, Sami leaves. Hearing from Craig that her father will be okay, Angela grabs the tape from Moroni and slips a phony one back into his jacket. Nicole convinces Victor to fly her to Mexico with him to get a divorce. Kate's pleased when she tricks Victor into signing a new codicil to his will.
John pleads with Marlena to come home and reveals the good news about Brady. She refuses to return even when John mentions that Victor offered to have Brady live with him. Frustrated, John asks Brady what Marlena has done to anger him but then stops Brady when he goes on and on about Marlena. Austin reports to Greta that he was unable to reach Sami. As Ingrid describes her upcoming coronation, Greta asks Austin to remain with her for the festivities. Brandon chases Sami to the airport where he asks her again to marry him. She turns him down and mentions Austin which infuriates Brandon. Angela interrupts with the news that she's returning to Italy with her father. Sami receives a call from Austin but is curt with him and hangs up. Angela shows off the tape she took back from her father but promises it to Sami only after Angela marries Brandon. Kate stuns Lucas when she offers a few reasons why it won't be upsetting to her when Victor dies. Nicole again asks Victor to fly her to Mexico with him but he refuses. She later confronts Kate and Lucas in her office and, after another argument, guesses that Kate intends to insure Victor dies. Chloe admits to Belle that she really cares about Philip but refuses when she asks her to end her feud with Mimi.
