At Brash & Sassy, via video chat, Victoria jubilantly welcomed Cane's news about securing contracts from store owners in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand. Cane announced that Brash & Sassy would become a "serious player" in the Asian market. Victoria replied, "Look out, Jabot!" Beaming with pride, Victoria later added, "That is the best news I could've ever heard." Victoria told Cane she'd feared that Sato might not sign a contract, and she highly praised Cane's efforts. Cane, with interpreter and associate Juliet sitting beside him, informed Victoria that Juliet should also receive credit for her role. Victoria encouraged Cane and Juliet to wine and dine at her expense.
At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Billy paused next to a sign situated near the stairway. The sign advertised Genoa City's Annual Wedding Fair. As Billy entered an upper floor, a man introducing himself as Don asked about the special event. Billy noted that the wedding fair was taking place in the ballroom downstairs. Don claimed that his fiancée had dragged him to the fair, but he'd mistakenly entered the wrong floor. Billy encouraged Don to stop by Brash & Sassy's booth to pick up products from the new men's line.
After Don walked away, Billy entered a suite on the eighth floor. Inside, Lily was applying makeup before heading to a meet-and-greet function for Brash & Sassy. Jordan, the photographer, entered the suite, greeted Billy, and announced that it was time for Lily to take her place. Lily hesitated when she heard a text-message alert sounding on Billy's phone. Lily noted that though she knew it was late in Tokyo, she was concerned about not having heard from Cane. Billy explained that Cane had been engaged in long meetings. Lily nodded. After Jordan escorted Lily out of the suite, Don poked his head around a corner and secretly watched them walk away in the opposite direction.
Billy entered Victoria's office just as she was signing off from Cane's video chat. Victoria shared Cane's good news. Billy noted that Lily had been a big hit with the crowd at the wedding expo. Victoria seemed frazzled as she phoned suppliers and juggled file folders containing marketing reports. Billy suggested that Victoria should've arranged for Cane to return home to assist her. Billy offered to help, but Victoria declined and told him to attend a meeting he'd mentioned. Billy paused in the doorway and overheard Victoria take a call from Johnny's teacher about a fast-approaching deadline to turn in a signed permission slip. Billy walked away before Victoria hastily grabbed her coat and headed out the door.
Lily and Jordan later returned to the suite to take a break. Lily seemed overwhelmed after greeting crowds of admiring fans. Jordan said Lily's spokesmodel duties seemed quite different from her job at the Athletic Club. Lily joked that she'd grown accustomed to arguing with chefs, tackling plumbing emergencies, and booking events with "her wall of adoring fans" looking on. Lily admitted that she'd missed modeling and being in the spotlight.
Victoria entered the Brash & Sassy staging suite at the Athletic Club. Jordan stepped into the bathroom. Lily anxiously checked her phone. Victoria asked Lily if she was expecting a call. Lily mentioned Cane and said she realized he'd been busy with meetings. Victoria explained that Cane's meetings had all ended. Lily seemed concerned.
After Jordan and Victoria exited the suite, they inadvertently left the door slightly ajar. In a flashback, Lily recalled Cane's excitement about his international assignment. Don entered through the open door and startled Lily. Don, without introducing himself, requested a photo with Lily. Taken aback, Lily noted that Don had entered a private area. When Lily attempted to direct Don out the door and to the ballroom, he said he'd recognized her from her days as a model for Jabot. Lily said she had modeled for Jabot in the past.
After Don mentioned a fiancée named Heather, Lily again attempted to escort Don out of the room by offering to meet Heather. Don declined and said, "She'd probably go ballistic if she caught me with a babe like you." Don insisted on taking a photo with Lily, and he brazenly clutched Lily around her waist and pulled her close. After Don snapped the photo, Lily pulled away and said, "Okay, well, if that's it." Don wasn't satisfied with the photo he'd taken and grabbed Lily again.
Jordan returned to the suite and noticed that Lily seemed distressed. Lily broke away from Don and sought refuge beside Jordan. Don recognized Jordan as a photographer. Jordan became protective and said, "I'm a lot more than that to Lily, but yeah, I take pictures." After Jordan warned Don that he'd entered a restricted area, Don left. A frightened Lily embraced Jordan and thanked him for returning when he had.
Jordan prepared tea for Lily and offered to alert security, but Lily assured Jordan that the man, whose name she said she didn't know, was only a fan. Jordan noted that fans like the man Lily had encountered were a downside to fame. Jordan assured Lily that he wouldn't allow another overeager fan to approach her. Lily said she yearned to hear from Cane so he could offer the same reassurance. While Jordan was out of the room, Lily again attempted to phone Cane, but he didn't answer.
Jordan stepped out of the bathroom as Lily disappointedly set down her phone. Jordan suggested Lily finished her tea and calm her nerves after dealing with the bothersome fan. Lily, still reeling, said she wanted to return home. Lily cried that she missed talking to Cane. After Lily stepped out and exited through the hallway, someone covertly watched her.
Later, Victoria, in a rush, unlocked the door to her house and found Billy standing before her. Billy explained that he'd overheard Victoria's conversation with Johnny's teacher and had handled the matter regarding the permission slip. Billy added that he'd been just about to let Victoria know what he'd done. Victoria tightly embraced Billy, thanked him, and said he had no idea how much his help had meant to her. Victoria berated herself for having failed to keep up with a simple permission slip.
Billy reminded Victoria that he was also Johnny and Katie's parent, and he also offered to oversee Reed's music classes. Noting that Victoria had her plate full with Brash & Sassy, Billy offered to become a stay-at-home dad. Victoria placed her hand atop Billy's and said, "How is it that you manage to still surprise me after all these years?" Victoria nixed Billy's idea and said she needed his help more at the office. After Billy walked out the door on the way to his meeting, he paused outside and smiled.
At GC Buzz, Hilary irately warned Mariah that housework segments weren't the right fit for the show's viewers, so perhaps Mariah wasn't, either. Hilary handed Mariah a press release she was to read on the show. It was about Hilary's divorce from Devon. Mariah looked concerned after she read it, but Hilary seemed joyful as she announced that she would soon be divorced and ready to embrace a new life. Mariah asked about a possible romance between Hilary and Jordan. Hilary said she and Jordan had only enjoyed drinks together on their date. Mariah discouraged Hilary from sharing too much of her private life on the show. Hilary explained that she finally felt free after devoting so much time attempting to revive her failing marriage.
In the dining room at the Athletic Club, Michael looked over Devon's signed divorce papers and asked if Devon was certain a divorce was what he wanted. Devon explained that his and Hilary's relationship was a mess, so ending things seemed to make the most sense. Michael advised Devon to start building the life he wanted. Devon scoffed and replied, "Whatever that is." Michael suggested that perhaps something in Devon's past hadn't yet been resolved. Devon immediately replied that he had no unresolved issues and knew for certain that his marriage was over. Michael urged Devon to lean on his family for support.
After Devon's meeting with his attorney ended, he ran into Mariah. Mariah said she planned to visit the wedding expo for story ideas. Mariah told Devon about Hilary's announcement about the divorce. Mariah also mentioned her abrasive run-in with Hilary. Devon offered to intervene with Hilary, but Mariah said she'd rather he not. Mariah noted that soon, both Devon and Hilary could move on with their lives.
Devon told Mariah that he'd learned from Michael that the divorce proceedings might have hit a snag around the financial settlement. Devon explained that he'd hoped to avoid an unpleasant trial and instead settle matters before a judge at a hearing. Mariah said she planned to avoid marriage because it seemed to boil down to dollars and cents. Devon told Mariah not to remain cynical. Devon encouraged Mariah to stay to the idea of falling in love and getting married one day.
Michael stopped by GC Buzz to speak to Hilary. Hilary asked Michael if he regretted seeing an end to his billable hours. Michael said he was glad that Devon and Hilary had made decisions acceptable to them both. Michael noted that because Hilary had yet to finalize a financial settlement, the judge wouldn't sign the decree. Michael recalled that Hilary had torn up a huge check from Devon. Hilary admitted that tearing up the check had been a ploy. Michael warned Hilary not to expect Devon to meet her terms. Michael added that though it was his job to protect Devon's assets, he knew Hilary would need money to stand on her own two feet.
Devon joined Michael and Hilary at GC Buzz. Hilary became testy when Michael mentioned the settlement. Michael noted that Devon and Hilary had to agree on a financial agreement. Devon said he'd heard that Hilary had a proposal for him. Hilary replied, "There's only one thing I want from you, Devon. This show -- full ownership. Take it or leave it."
At a bar in Tokyo, Cane and Juliet prepared to celebrate. Cane noted that Juliet's appearance differed from her style when dressed in business attire. Juliet noted that while she dressed conservatively during business hours, she embraced a more chic look when out and about on the town. Juliet announced that she would be Cane's personal guide for the evening. Cane attempted to phone Lily, but Juliet explained that their driver was waiting. Cane postponed his call to Lily and left with Juliet.
Later, back at the hotel bar, Juliet spoke to the bartender in Japanese and ordered premium-quality sake. Cane thanked Juliet for being his tour guide and for saving his business deal after he'd broken protocol. Cane seemed somewhat confused after Juliet noted that Cane could be her lifesaver, too. Cane gulped down another serving of sake and pronounced it to be smooth and palatable. Juliet cautioned Cane to slowly savor the drink.
Juliet, recalling her request for Cane's assistance, announced that she coveted a position as the division manager for Asia. Juliet asked Cane to put in a good word for her with Victoria. Cane agreed that he would. Juliet inquired further about her prospects, but Cane heard music and instead considered taking part in karaoke. Cane began slurring his words after he drank the last of the sake and said he wanted more.
Cane and Juliet walked to the bar to order more sake. Cane left his phone behind at the table and missed a call from Lily. While at the bar, Juliet massaged Cane's shoulders. Cane continued downing sake back at their table. Juliet recommended they eat, but Cane said he'd rather lie down in his hotel room upstairs. Juliet placed Cane's arm around her shoulder, grabbed Cane's phone, and said she'd help him to the elevator. Cane was quite inebriated as he stumbled along while leaning on Juliet.
At the Athletic Club bar, Ashley was on the phone with Jack, whose flight had been canceled. She considered him lucky for getting out of attending a charity opera night, and she groaned that she'd have to endure it by herself. She hung up and ordered another drink, but she realized that the bartender was busy serving another customer. Ravi said he could wait while the bartender poured Ashley another glass of wine, and he informed her that he'd just been grabbing dinner. Ashley wished she could take dinner home and eat it in her pajamas.
Ravi thought that would be a shame because Ashley looked amazing. She complained that the opera was bad enough with company, but she had to go by herself. Ravi volunteered to go with her if it wouldn't be overstepping. Ashley warned that it wouldn't be a fun night, and she hadn't even made Abby go. Ravi remarked that he and Abby had different concepts of fun, and he thought it wouldn't be good for Jabot to have empty seats.
Ashley repeated Ravi's earlier words about her being consumed by what other people thought of her, but he didn't want to start that conversation again. She told him not to apologize for sharing his feelings, since it was what friends did. Ravi swore that he'd offered to attend the opera as a gesture of friendship, but he wasn't sure if it blurred the lines. He added that he could handle putting on a suit, and she agreed to leave a ticket for him at will call. She imagined that he'd have trouble keeping his eyes open by the third act, but he doubted that intense passion and beautiful music would bore him.
At the Baldwin home, Lauren hesitated to leave Scott alone while she and Michael went to the opera. Michael warned that hovering over Scott wasn't the best course of action, but Lauren worried that Scott would have nothing to do but think about fearing for his life. She called Phyllis and asked if she had plans that night, since Lauren needed someone sneaky and underhanded. Lauren inquired whether Phyllis was up for a challenge.
Later, the doorbell rang, and Lauren let Phyllis in. Scott entered the room, and Michael reminded Scott who Phyllis was. Phyllis mentioned that she was there to access Fenmore's metadata, but Scott figured that she could do that from her own computer. Lauren claimed that it was a security issue, and she apologized that Phyllis had to spend the evening there. Michael and Lauren left, and Phyllis told Scott to feel free to go about his business. Scott grumbled that no matter what his mom thought, he was too old for a babysitter.
Scott doubted that Phyllis had to work from there, and she expected a seasoned journalist like him to be cynical. She asked how he was doing, and he replied that he was grateful to be alive, but he couldn't stop thinking about Ahmed. Scott imagined that the terrorists still had his friend. He wished he could go back to find Ahmed, but he had to sit back and see if Victor could do it. Phyllis had one more question, but Scott snapped that he wasn't ready to talk about what had happened. She asked what kind of pizza he'd missed the most, and he envisioned a thin-crust pie with olives and anchovies. Phyllis proclaimed that anchovy fans had to stick together, and she high-fived him.
As Scott ate pizza, Phyllis bet that he hadn't had anything like it overseas. Scott praised her for the awesome suggestion, and he hoped she'd have some, too. She said she would once she had his laptop up and running, but he didn't expect her to be able to fix it. She adjusted some settings and handed him the computer, and he offered to pay for the pizza to thank her. Phyllis told him to consider it a treat from a fan, since she'd read a lot of his stuff because his mom hadn't been shy about sharing.
Scott was surprised, given that Lauren didn't approve of his career choice. Phyllis clarified that Lauren was a fan of his writing, just not of the danger his work put him in. Scott lamented that no one was able to understand, and he imagined what torture Ahmed might be enduring while Scott was uselessly sitting there, eating pizza. Scott indicated that Lauren always went to Phyllis for solutions, and Phyllis insisted that he wasn't helpless, since he had power in his keyboard. She suggested that he tell people what he and Ahmed had gone through and force others to take notice.
Scott groused that he'd already be telling his story if he hadn't gotten fired, but his kidnapping had made him a liability to the news agency, and the insurance hadn't been worth it to them. Phyllis insisted that he was worth it, and she proposed that he use his good name and reputation to start a blog. Scott had no idea how to start his own platform, and Phyllis replied, "Guess who does?" Later, Phyllis smiled as she watched Scott type on his laptop, and she handed him another slice of pizza.
At the Ashby home, Neil and Matty finished a game of checkers, and Lily arrived home and asked where Charlie was. Matty reported that her brother was playing a dumb video game because he couldn't handle the competition, and she and Neil high-fived. Lily relayed that the wedding fair had been a blast except for one creepy guy, but it hadn't been a big deal. Matty asked if her daddy would be home that night, and Lily assured her that Cane would be home very soon, but not that night. Neil was surprised that Lily didn't know Cane's schedule, and Lily mentioned the time difference. Neil pointed out that it was morning in Tokyo.
In Japan, Cane stirred in bed when his phone rang. He groaned. rubbed his head, and slowly reached for the phone, but Lily had already hung up by the time he mumbled hello. He turned back over in bed.
Lily wondered if she should try to reach Cane again, and Neil guessed that there were issues with the cell phone service. Neil realized that he was about to be late, and Lily asked if he had a hot date. He hesitantly revealed that he had plans with Lois Thompson, and Lily called the reporter "a D-list Hilary." Lily thought Neil had been upset over Lois' piece about Phyllis cheating on Jack with his brother, but Neil replied that he was over it. Lily protested that Lois wasn't good enough for Neil, but Neil contended that Lois was attractive, smart, and willing to pretend to be interested in opera. A male figure lurked outside as Neil departed.
Lily told Matty to finish cleaning up because it was bedtime. Lily's phone chimed, and she cheerfully greeted a haggard-looking Cane on video-chat. Cane said he'd been asleep when she'd called earlier, and he admitted that he'd celebrated a bit too much after closing the deal. He bemoaned that he never wanted sake again, and Lily called Matty over to say goodnight. He told Lily that he loved her, and she gushed that she couldn't wait to see him. Cane discovered an earring under the covers of his bed, and he flashed back to Juliet wearing the same earrings the night before.
Downstairs at the hotel, Cane wished Juliet a good morning, and she informed him that she'd already ordered him coffee. He hoped it had no alcohol in it, and she recommended that he eat something with wasabi to help with his hangover. He recognized that he hadn't been the first person to fall victim to the strong drinks in Tokyo, and she confirmed that she'd been a little drunk herself the night before, but she'd had fun. He mentioned that his memory was a little fuzzy after the tenth sake bomb, and she hoped he hadn't forgotten about the promise he'd made her.
Cane said Australians usually held their liquor better, and Juliet became concerned that he didn't remember what he'd said he'd do. She recounted that he'd offered to tell Victoria that Juliet would make a great division manager, and Cane insisted that he remembered and that Juliet had proven herself. Cane agreed to talk to Victoria, but he warned that the decision was ultimately hers. Cane asked if there was anything else he needed to remember from the night before, and Juliet teased that she'd saved him from some embarrassing karaoke. He pulled out the earring and said he'd been wondering more about that.
Juliet was glad Cane had found the earring, and she mentioned that her sister had given her the pair as a birthday present. Cane wasn't clear about how it had ended up in his bed, and Juliet worried that it could have stabbed him, although he wouldn't have felt it in his condition. He incredulously asked if she'd been in his room with him the night before, and she explained that he'd been too drunk to operate his keycard, so she'd had to put him to bed. An embarrassed Cane promised it wouldn't happen again, but Juliet insisted that it had been a great trip. Cane received a text message from his ride to the airport, and he prepared to let Lily know about his arrival.
Lily looked at her phone as the creepy guy from the Athletic Club peered in through the window. He snapped photos of Lily, using his phone, but Jordan suddenly grabbed him. Jordan rang Lily's doorbell and reported that he'd caught the man hovering around her windows, and the guy swore that he hadn't meant any harm. She demanded to know why the man had followed her, and Jordan informed her that the guy had been taking pictures. The man said he was sorry and begged to have his phone back, but Lily threatened to call the cops. The man promised that he wouldn't keep the photos, and Jordan agreed as he crushed the man's phone under his foot.
Later, Lily told a police officer that she wanted to press charges, but the creepy man begged her not to do it. The cop said he could book the guy on trespassing, but Lily questioned what would happen if the man returned. Jordan warned the guy not to go near Lily or her family, and Lily ordered the officer to escort the man off her property. After the cop hauled the guy away, Lily fretted that the police wouldn't even keep the man overnight.
Jordan said he'd worked with a lot of models, and such incidents were an occupational hazard. He recommended that Lily look into getting a restraining order in the morning, and she wondered why he'd shown up when he had. Jordan replied that he'd wanted to check up on her with Cane out of town, since he'd had a weird feeling about the strange guy. Lily didn't know if she'd be able to sleep, and she was glad they didn't have a photo shoot next day. Jordan scoffed at the thought of her ever having a bad shoot, and he volunteered to crash on the couch if it would help her sleep. They hugged.
Lily set up Jordan on the couch and turned off the lights. Meanwhile, Juliet wished Cane a safe trip, and she hugged him goodbye. He started toward the exit with his suitcases, but he stopped and glanced back uncomfortably at her before he left. Juliet looked down at the earring in her hand and smiled.
At Top of the Tower, Nikki asked what Victor thought of the view, and he admired her formal gown. They kissed, and she hoped that everything went smoothly at her charity event that night. He told her that it would happen if she thought it would, and she requested more charity from him. He assumed that she meant a check, but she implored him to get into the spirit of the evening. He expected that he'd have to tolerate a lot of Abbotts.
Victor told Nikki to keep reminding him that the event was for a good cause, and she thought it felt good to be able to give back. He compared her love for charity work to Katherine's, and Nikki said it was the best compliment he could ever give her. He envisioned Nikki taking over as the "doyenne of Genoa City," but she pointed out that he'd been the one to welcome Faith into their home and lead the charge to save Scott. Victor was glad that he'd been able to help.
At the opera house, Nikki and Victor exchanged pleasantries with Lauren and Michael. Lauren credited Victor with saving Scott's life, and she admitted that she'd had some trouble leaving her son at home. Nikki excused herself to tend to some donors, and Lauren said she didn't know how to repay Victor. Victor anticipated that the opportunity would present itself one day, and she swore that she'd do anything. Michael and Lauren took their seats, and he noted that Lauren had made quite an offer. Lauren figured that Victor would never ask her to whack someone, but Michael mused that anything could happen with Victor.
Ashley wished Victor a good evening, and he remarked that she looked even more beautiful without her brother. She mentioned that a coworker would be using Jack's ticket. Neil introduced Lois to Victor, and Ashley mentioned that she'd seen Lois on the news. Lois apologized if the segment about Jack's marriage had seemed tawdry, and Victor thought Billy and Phyllis deserved the blame. Lois headed to her seat, and Ashley scolded that Neil could do better as one of Genoa City's most eligible bachelors. Neil explained that he was trying to get press for the foundation, and Ashley questioned whether he was open to other professional challenges.
The orchestra began warming up, and the audience hurried to their seats. Ashley told a tuxedo-clad man that the seat next to hers was taken, but she was stunned to realize that the man was Ravi without his glasses. He apologized for cutting it close because he hadn't been able to find his contacts. Across the aisle, Lois asked Neil who the hunk with Ashley was. The performance began, and Ashley suggested that she and Ravi make a pact to wake one another up before intermission. Ravi didn't plan on missing a second.
Nikki looked at the stage through opera glasses, and Victor kissed her cheek. Ashley was surprised to see that Ravi had opera glasses of his own, and he gazed adoringly at her as the performance ended. Michael was startled awake by the applause.
At Top of the Tower, Nikki looked forward to asking what people had thought of the performance. Michael claimed that he'd found it refreshing, and Lois remarked that the after-party was fabulous. A socialite thanked Nikki for putting the evening together, but she haughtily stated that the performance had been fair at best. The woman's husband huffed that it hadn't compared to what they'd seen in Milan, and the woman complained that the baritone had been off. Ravi disagreed, citing the emotional resonance of the performance.
Ashley quietly urged Ravi not to waste his breath, but Ravi inquired whether the high-society couple had caught a particular performance at the Met. Ravi conceded that he'd had to settle for a satellite broadcast, but he considered the chemistry between the performers to be equivalent to the opera they'd just seen. Nikki was stunned that Ravi was connecting with the "fancy pants" donors, and Victor suggested that she put Ravi on her fundraising committee. Ashley mentioned that Ravi was a brilliant computer engineer, and the female socialite invited Ravi to join her and her husband to talk about opera over Champagne.
Nikki marveled that the couple had never warmed up to anyone, and she remarked that Ashley's friend was a "snob whisperer." Ashley acknowledged that Ravi was full of surprises, and Nikki noted that Ravi was a switch from Ashley's usual dates. Ashley defensively asked what Nikki implying, but Ravi gallantly interrupted to hand Ashley a drink so she didn't get thirsty while he continued to chat up the wealthy couple.
Nikki swore that she wasn't trying to pick a fight, but she pointed out that Ravi was a bit younger than Ashley. Ashley cattily wondered if Nikki had forgotten about Deacon Sharpe, and Nikki retorted that it had been years earlier. Ashley huffed that it was no issue for a man to go out with a younger woman, and Nikki inquired whether Ashley and Ravi were on a date. Nikki added that they made a cute couple, and Ashley chugged her drink. Ashley looked over at Ravi chatting with the Genoa City elite. Later, Ravi returned to Ashley's side, and they sipped Champagne together.
Victor asked Lauren to tell Scott that he had contacts in London who might have information about Ahmed's whereabouts. Lauren was glad that Scott wasn't rushing off to another war zone, but Victor declared that he respected Scott for what he'd done. Lauren wished her son would find a passion that he could pursue safely from home, and Victor mentioned that he might have something for Scott.
Billy and Ashley met for breakfast at the Top of the Tower. He said he'd heard there was a power struggle at Jabot. Ashley admitted that she and Jack butted heads a lot less when Jack was in a different city. Ashley admitted she didn't like the way Jack had gone about getting Fenmore's. Jack had pressured Lauren, scared off Lauren's investors, and colluded with and hired Gloria when he knew her history. Billy couldn't wrap his head around that one either. He thought the virtual dressing room app was genius as was the app for Jabot Go. Ashley acknowledged that Brash & Sassy was nipping at Jabot's heels.
Ashley noted that Brash & Sassy had scored quite the coup with Sato because Sato was a fierce negotiator. Billy told Ashley that it had been Cane's deal, and he deserved the ticker tape parade. Ashley asked why Victoria hadn't given Billy the deal, since Billy had done extensive work in Japan. He said Victoria had had her reasons. Ashley thought things had been going well between Billy and Victoria. Billy admitted that things were good between them, and they were chugging along as parents. Ashley knew that Billy wanted something more, but he didn't see that happening. Victoria had the walls up, and he didn't blame her.
Ashley stated that it had to affect Billy and Victoria's business relationship. Billy disagreed. He said Victoria had been born to own that company, but sometimes she got into boss lady mode and sounded like Victor. Ashley asked if Victoria was sending Billy a message, which was the reason she'd sent Cane to strike the deal. Billy said he had questioned Victoria's choice, but it had turned out to be the right one. He told Ashley that Juliet, the regional consultant, had helped Cane with some handholding.
Billy informed Ashley that Cane had done business in Japan before and hadn't embarrassed himself. Billy said it had finally put a cap on Cane's constant whining of being under-appreciated. Ashley felt that it had to have bugged Billy that Cane had aced the assignment. Billy said he'd been working to move Brash & Sassy's men's line into the sports world, and once it hit the market, Jabot wouldn't know what had hit them.
Reed arrived at Brash & Sassy with a huge chip on his shoulder. He complained that Victoria hadn't signed the authorization for his driver's ed. Victoria asked if Reed was irked because she had taken a call during his performance. Victoria defended her action, stating that it had been a call from Japan on urgent business. Reed asked if her business had been more important than what her kid had been doing. Victoria reminded Reed that he hadn't wanted her to go in the first place, but she had gone anyway. Victoria said that what she'd heard and the way the crowd had reacted to him had been amazing, and she was proud of him.
Reed said that Zoey thought he'd been terrific. Victoria said she knew that Reed liked Zoey, but she was a distraction. He had a lot on his plate, like school, music, and driver's ed. Reed yelled at her to stop trying to control him. Victoria said she wanted what was best for him. She said Zoey was like the queen bee, and she had power. Victoria knew the type -- Zoey hung out with the popular kids in school, and they decided who was cool and who wasn't. Billy entered and advised Reed to be careful with Zoey. He reminded Victoria that Reed wasn't planning marriage. Reed left.
Billy told Victoria that he'd met with Ashley earlier, and she had congratulated Victoria on the Asian deal. Billy said he'd looked into an idea for the sports line. Victoria asked if he'd done it without consulting her. Billy said it was a big deal, and he'd thought Victoria would be pleased. She asked if Billy was trying to promote the company or outdo Cane. Billy said he could run circles around Cane and went on to say that as gorgeous as Lily was, men looked up to pro athletes. Hockey players were young and gritty -- guys' guys.
Billy explained that the products would appeal to everyone who had never heard of a body spray let alone used one. They would have ad campaigns, ads in magazines and on their website, ads in the arenas on the boards, and commercials during the games. They would roll out in the East, followed by the United States and Canada. If they wanted to market to the men, they needed to be where the men were. The guys who watched hockey had the most disposable income, and their age was exactly Brash & Sassy's demographic. It was as close to perfect as it could get. Victoria told Billy to run with it.
Billy called his connection to confirm his presentation the following day. Billy was advised that they wanted to reschedule his appearance in front of the board because another company was trying to outbid them for the exact same sponsorship rights. After Billy disconnected the call, he exploded and told Victoria that Jabot was the other bidder who was trying to outbid them. Victoria stopped Billy from storming off to confront Jack. Victoria told Billy that instead of getting angry, they should concentrate on beating Jack at his own game.
Ravi entered Jack's office and told Gloria he was looking for Ashley. Gloria informed him that Ashley was at the Top of the Tower. Gloria warned Ravi that she knew he and Ashley had a special connection, but Ravi needed to remember who the big boss was.
When Jack arrived, Gloria told him she'd arranged his day and taken the liberty of taking care of some things on his behalf. Jack asked about Ashley. Gloria said that Ashley was having breakfast at the Top of the Tower, but Gloria didn't know with whom. Jack wanted to know what liberties Gloria had taken. Gloria showed Jack where Brash & Sassy had a weak area. Jack was impressed and appreciated the initiative. Gloria pointed out that she'd proven her worth and her loyalty. Jack agreed to give her more responsibility, and he reminded her that nothing would change between them.
When Cane arrived at home, Colin greeted him. Cane told Colin that he'd secured a multi-million-dollar deal, and Brash & Sassy would be sold everywhere. Cane added that Victoria was very pleased. Colin said that that coup would cement Cane's place in the company.
Cane asked about Lily. Colin said that he didn't want to be a buzzkill, but when he'd arrived the previous night, there had been a mystery man sleeping on the couch. Colin noted that Cane had taken the information lightly. Colin said that if he'd arrived home after he'd been out of the country and had discovered a man sleeping on his couch, he would have been suspicious.
At Crimson Lights, Lily told Neil about the stalker and revealed that he'd been arrested, so she felt safe. Lily said that Cane would be home later. She didn't want to deal with the situation on her own. Neil offered to have Leslie meet them at the courthouse so Lily could get a restraining order. Lily was relieved and thanked Neil.
At the Chancellor mansion, Esther admired Jill's ring. Jill said she'd never take it off. Nikki arrived. Nikki looked around the foyer wistfully and told Esther there were many memories there. Nikki looked lovingly at Katherine's portrait.
Jill told Nikki that she had questions that she hoped Nikki could answer. They discussed Jill's health, and Jill disclosed that she was waiting to go into cardiac rehab. Jill hadn't realized she'd had a heart attack because she had thought she would have chest pains. With the symptoms she'd displayed, Jill had thought she'd had a bad case of heartburn. She hadn't realized that women's symptoms were different from men's. Jill told Nikki about all the signs and symptoms of a heart attack in women and how annual checkups were so important. Nikki realized she'd found a worthy cause to work on -- talking to women about heart health.
Nikki admired Jill's ring. Jill asked if Nikki had ever seen the ring before. Nikki admitted that she hadn't. Jill explained that it had been the wedding ring Phillip had wanted her to have, but he had never had the chance to give it to her because Katherine had driven him to his death. Jill showed Katherine's letter to Nikki. Jill was certain that Katherine would have confided in Nikki, since Nikki had been the daughter Katherine had never had. Nikki was elated when she saw Katherine's handwriting. Nikki told Jill that Katherine had mentioned Phillip occasionally, but she'd never mentioned anything about the ring. Jill wanted to know why Katherine hadn't given her the ring before Katherine had died.
Nikki read the letter and advised Jill that Katherine hadn't been able to face the fact that Phillip had loved Jill. Nikki said that Jill had always been able to cut Katherine to the quick. Katherine had loved Jill, and as time had passed, she might have wanted to give Jill the ring but had been afraid of losing Jill forever. Jill looked at Katherine's portrait and seemed to see her in a new light. Jill admitted she'd wanted to cut Katherine out of her life but hadn't been able to. Nikki stated that Jill and Katherine had had an extraordinary friendship. Nikki added that the challenges Katherine had thrown at Jill had been to make Jill stronger.
Nikki added that Katherine had cherished the moments she'd shared with the people she'd loved. Nikki felt that both Jill and Katherine had suffered, but in the end, Katherine had found happiness with Murphy. Nikki said Jill should do the same. Jill asked, "With Colin?" Nikki said that Katherine would have told Jill to examine her heart and decide if her life would be better with or without Colin in it.
A short time later, Jill received a call from Colin, who stated he didn't want to hurt her anymore.
Ravi bumped into Ashley as she was leaving the Top of the Tower. Ravi thanked Ashley for allowing him to escort her to the opera. While they discussed the opera, Ravi became uncomfortable and reminded Ashley that there was a line they couldn't ever cross. Ashley had a flash image of Nikki saying that Ashley and Ravi made a cute couple, but Ashley agreed with Ravi, even though she saw Ravi in a different light.
Lily arrived at home and told Cane about the stalker and how Jordan had helped her. She told Cane that Jordan had slept on the couch to protect her. Lily explained that Jordan had been concerned and had decided to check on her. When Jordan had arrived, he'd caught the stalker outside their door, taking pictures. They'd called the police, and the stalker had been arrested. She told Cane that she'd taken out a restraining order against the stalker.
Neil suggested that he and Colin leave so Cane and Lily could have some time alone. After Neil and Colin left, Cane told Lily he would install a security system and security cameras outside. Cane told Lily about his trip. Lily was happy that Cane was finally happy at work. Cane praised Juliet for being a terrific tour guide. Lily had to leave for a short time. Cane kissed her, and Lily left. While Lily was gone, Cane unpacked the gifts he'd bought for Lily and the kids. Cane was shocked when he found a camisole at the bottom of his suitcase.
At the Top of the Tower, Colin and Neil had lunch, which Neil paid for. Colin told Neil that he was desperate to see Jill and that he'd only seen her a few times since her heart attack. Colin said he'd done everything possible to win Jill back, but it had blown up in his face. Neil told Colin to accept the things that Colin couldn't change. Colin felt he should return to Australia. Neil thought giving Jill space was a good idea.
Colin said therein lay the rub -- he didn't have the money for the flight to Australia. Neil said he'd float Colin a loan. Colin promised to pay it back, but it would take some time. Colin said he had one last thing to take care of. He called Jill. Colin told Jill he'd hurt her too much and didn't want to do that anymore.
Ashley walked into Jack's office, and he thanked her for taking care of things while he'd been away. Jack said that while he'd been in New York, he'd had a drink with Leon Herschel, a guy he'd known from Harvard. Not only was Leon a sports lawyer, but he was also on the board of governors for pro hockey. Leon had given Jack the heads-up that a competitor was angling to be the official lead of men's grooming products. Ashley asked if he meant competition -- as in Billy.
Jack asked if Ashley had been fraternizing with the enemy. Ashley told Jack that she'd spent time with their brother. Jack corrected her and said that Billy was her brother. Ashley said that Billy had alluded to a sports connection for their products.
Jack stated that he'd cut Billy off at the pass. Ashley knew what Jack was doing, and she didn't like it. Jack informed her that they were already revitalizing the men's line with more variety and better products than Brash & Sassy could ever produce. Ashley argued that there were better ways of using their resources. Jack advised her that he had already fast-tracked the revitalization earlier that day. Ashley asked if that was Jack's top priority. Ashley knew it was about Jack's revenge on Billy, but Jack said he didn't "give a damn about that loser."
Jack said they had already started the diversification with Fenmore's. Ashley said she knew how irrational Jack could be. Jack countered that his decisions hadn't harmed the company. They were on top, and Jack would make sure they stayed there. Ashley stated there were better ways of doing that and a better use of their resources. Jack said he'd made the decision, and they were going to move ahead, with or without Ashley's support. Jack wasn't interested in besting the competition -- he wanted to destroy it.
