Sharon launches her business with Nick at her side

At the Athletic Club, Mariah excelled in her new role at Sharon's revamped company. Mariah greeted members of the press in the dining room and informed them that the kickoff would be a celebration and not a press junket. Tessa joined Mariah to deliver a poster wrapped in brown paper. Tessa said she was dying to know more about the mystery item, but Mariah explained that it was a surprise that Sharon would reveal soon. Mariah asked a waiter to hide the poster in the lounge. Mariah kissed Tessa and whispered that she would have to wait like everyone else.

At Chancellor-Winters, Devon stalled on making decisions about proposals Billy was eager to implement. Devon claimed that he had not had time to weigh all the ramifications. Billy recalled that Nate had become disillusioned when his ideas had not been readily accepted. Billy reminded Devon that he had years of experience, unlike Nate. Devon replied, "I'm aware of that, Billy. Not always successful, though." Billy advised Devon not to wait too long because some of his ideas had an expiration date. Devon insisted he would not be rushed.

Chelsea and Abby arrived, dressed up in glittery attire. Billy told Abby he hoped she might convince Devon to leave the office early because he could use a little fun. Abby announced that she and Devon were attending the launch party for Sharon's new company. Chelsea replied, "Us, too. Double date?" Devon's facial expression telegraphed his unfavorable reception to Chelsea's invitation. Devon claimed he had emails to attend to, so Billy and Chelsea left. Abby asked Devon about working with Billy. Devon explained that Billy was accustomed to working with Jack, though he anticipated that Billy would adjust.

After Billy and Chelsea stepped out, Chelsea asked him about Devon, noting that things had seemed tense between them. Billy explained that he and Devon differed in their business styles. Billy admitted that Devon had been aloof, having not expected Billy to return to the company at Jill's request. Billy told Chelsea that Devon had more autonomy when he had worked alongside Lily and Jill. Billy noted that Devon would have to adjust to his and Nate's returns, plus the addition of Mamie and Chance.

At the Abbott home, Diane and Jack dressed up to attend the launch of Sharon's new business venture. Diane mentioned the unfortunate loss of Mariah after Mariah had left Jabot to join her mother. Jack noted that they could not blame Mariah for wanting to work with family. Diane mentioned that because Kyle had dropped the ploy to trick Tucker, perhaps it was time for Jack to promote his son. Jack replied, "There's plenty of time for that." Diane was not pleased and petitioned for her son, noting that Kyle had proven himself during the battle with Tucker. Jack rushed out the door as Diane pouted.

At the Jazz Lounge, Nick greeted Sharon, referring to her as the woman of the hour. Nick presented Sharon with a bouquet of flowers from Faith and Noah. Sharon admired the blooms and said that both of her children had phoned her earlier. Nick gave Sharon a nameplate for her desk, which was inscribed "CEO." Sharon cried, "I'm really doing this, aren't I?" Nick gushed and assured Sharon that he and their children could not be prouder. Sharon bragged on Mariah and said she was lucky to have her daughter on her team. Sharon recalled having had a dream that had helped her put things into perspective, adding that part of her dream had become reality.

Adam and Sally arrived and greeted Nick and Sharon. Having overheard Sharon's comment regarding dreams, Adam asked Sharon if the event's theme might reflect dreams coming true. Nick rolled his eyes. Sharon took a deep breath and cordially greeted Adam and Sally. Sharon mentioned Nick and Adam having been named co-CEOs at Newman Enterprises.

Adam glanced at Sally and said that he tended to work hard to get the things he wanted. Nick reminded Adam that the night was all about Sharon. Sharon credited both Adam and Nick for the input they had shared at the beginning when she'd been creating a vision for her company. Adam noted that Sally's design business was going quite well. Sally replied, "Thanks to Nick's investment."

After Nick and Adam went to get glasses of Champagne, Sharon told Sally that Adam was once again Sally's biggest fan. Sally admitted she was cautiously optimistic about their relationship, adding that the same could be said about Sharon and Nick. Sharon replied that Nick was her date, explaining that he was always by her side whenever she needed him. Sally noticed Nick smiling at Sharon from across the room.

Alone later, Adam and Sally sipped Champagne and recalled having run into Nick. Sally said Nick had seemed fine when he had bumped into them when she and Adam had been going upstairs together. Adam asked Sally how she felt about Nick seeing them together in public. Sally pulled Adam close to kiss him and said, "It's wonderful."

Adam and Sally greeted Chelsea and Billy. Adam mentioned to Chelsea that Connor's grades had dropped from all A's. Chelsea explained that Connor was adjusting to a new school and needed time to find his rhythm. Sally said Connor was a great kid. Chelsea admitted that Connor was a fan of Sally's. Adam noted that Billy had left Jabot. Billy replied that his employment at Jabot had lasted longer than Adam's. Adam bragged that he had become co-CEO at Newman Enterprises.

Abby and Devon entered the jazz lounge and paused at the foot of the stairs. Devon asked Abby who she was looking for. Abby replied that it might be awkward to run into Chance. Abby said she was certain that Chance would not miss Sharon's big night. Devon glanced about and said he did not see Chance. Abby seemed puzzled by Chance's absence.

Mariah delivered a glass of Champagne to Sharon and explained that Nick was busy hobnobbing with "muckety-mucks." Mariah instructed Sharon to mingle before giving her speech. Jack and Diane arrived. Jack kissed Sharon on the cheek and congratulated her. Diane mentioned that Jabot would have difficulty replacing Mariah. Jack praised Mariah's idea to send digital invitations. Mariah shrugged and said, "I mean, how are you going to launch a tech company with paper invites?" Jack smiled and nodded.

Jack greeted Chelsea and Billy and told Billy it appeared that his new job agreed with him. Billy said he had no complaints. Diane approached, and having overheard Billy, replied, "How nice for you." Abby and Devon joined them. Jack told Devon they had been discussing Billy's new job at Chancellor-Winters. Devon noted that Billy had hit the ground running. Abby interrupted and said she anticipated nothing but success. Chelsea agreed.

Diane mentioned that she was concerned about Tucker's intentions involving Jabot. Devon explained that he was no longer speaking to Tucker. Jack recalled that Ashley believed that Tucker's relationship with Devon and Dom was his one saving grace. Devon noted that Tucker would have to save himself. Abby lifted her glass and reminded her friends that it was Sharon's big night.

Jack privately asked Chelsea how Billy was doing. Chelsea smiled and said, "You really love your brother, don't you?" Jack said he felt Billy had made an impetuous decision based on his feelings toward Jack. Chelsea admitted she felt that leaving Jabot had been good for Billy. Jack was taken aback. Chelsea explained that Billy was free to be creative on his own instead of seeking Jack's approval. Jack noted that spending time with Chelsea was also good for Billy.

Jack and Diane chatted with Adam and Sally. Jack asked the couple if it was presumptuous of him to assume that Adam and Sally had found a way to work things out. Adam replied that he and Sally were headed in the right direction. Sally smiled. Jack seemed pleased.

Across the room, Devon asked Tessa and Mariah about Aria. Mariah reported that Aria was doing amazingly well and that her hearing aids were working perfectly. Tessa bragged that Aria responded whenever Tessa sang to her. Mariah asked about Dom. Devon said his son impressed him every day with something new he had learned. Abby joined Tessa, Mariah, and Devon. Tessa asked about Dom's music classes. Abby offered to send the information when Mariah and Tessa had to rush off to take care of business at hand.

Abby told Devon she had noticed that he had seemed uncomfortable when Tessa had mentioned Dom's music class. Abby asked Devon if Tucker had shown up again. Devon said Tucker had not, evidently having heeded Devon's warning to stay away. Abby asked Devon if he had made a face because he had been disappointed. Devon replied that he was not disappointed because Tucker had done exactly what he had been asked to do.

Sharon thanked Nick for not reacting to Adam having arrived with Sally as his date. Nick observed that Adam was on top of the world, as he was back in Victor's good graces and Sally's, too. Sharon said she'd noticed that Nick had seemed somewhat on edge when confronted with Adam's relationship with Sally. Nick admitted he feared that Adam would upend the relationship or do something to hurt Sally. Nick quipped that perhaps a happy Adam might refrain from causing problems at the office. Nick said he hoped he had not jinxed himself by wishing aloud. Sharon laughed.

Mariah summoned guests' attention and introduced Sharon. After those gathered applauded, Sharon welcomed her guests and thanked them for their support. Sharon individually thanked Mariah Copeland for planning the celebration. Sharon also thanked Nick Newman, explaining that though he was no longer working with her, he had been crucial in helping her achieve her goals. Sharon said she would rather not recall the way in which she had come to own the company, instead proclaiming that from dark places, light could shine.

Sharon announced, "I am relaunching the company I inherited as a brand-new venture." Sharon explained that her mission was to positively impact the world, noting that half of all profits would benefit causes close to her heart, one being raising awareness about underage alcohol abuse. Sharon revealed that her daughter Faith had requested support for the cause. Sharon also named Delia's Foundation, New Hope, and the Abbott-Winters Foundation as other organizations that would receive funding, free software, and free technology support.

Sharon announced that she had chosen a new name for her company to reflect a change from its history. Sharon revealed a poster printed with the company name and logo. Sharon cried, "I give you Cassidy First Technology." Abby looked on as Nick became emotional. Mariah approached Nick and embraced him. Sharon smiled at Nick and Mariah.

Sharon later approached Devon and Billy and told them about her recent dream. Sharon explained that in her dream, Cassidy First had joined forces with Chancellor-Winters, combining their technologies and content. Sharon asked Devon and Billy if they might consider a partnership. Billy said he would love to hear more. Devon agreed that they were definitely intrigued and would set up a meeting to talk.

Sharon joined Nick as he was admiring the poster. Sharon asked Nick if he liked the new company name. Nick replied, "I didn't expect to get all misty-eyed at your cocktail party. It's perfect. The name, your whole mission. You're building something special." Sharon said she felt like Cassie had been guiding her, adding that she was still part of their lives every day. Nick told Sharon he had never been more in awe of her. Nick and Sharon stood together, admiring the poster printed with the name and logo announcing the launch of Cassidy First Technology.

At Society, Summer invited Phyllis to join her for a drink. Phyllis correctly guessed that Summer had chosen Society in order to avoid Sharon's press event at the jazz lounge. Summer admitted she had not wanted to run into certain people. Phyllis guessed that the two people Summer meant were Sharon and Chance. Summer admitted she had not wanted to see Chance with Sharon at the party.

Summer told her mother that Sharon had overheard when Phyllis had urged Summer to pursue Chance. Summer noted that Sharon had been relatively cool about the embarrassing situation. Phyllis insisted that Sharon was not interested in Chance, so Summer should not give up her shot at happiness. Summer explained that she had taken her shot by inviting Chance to have lunch, though he had declined. Phyllis would not back down, but Summer insisted she no longer wished to cross lines and play dirty to get what she wanted because she had grown beyond such tactics. Phyllis insisted she would never regret going after what she wanted. Summer assured her mother she was fine being alone until the right person came along.

After Summer left, Christine arrived and glared at Phyllis. Phyllis joined Christine at the bar and offered an apology for falling into her old patterns after seeing Christine with Danny. Phyllis insisted she no longer wished to be angry and combative, explaining that she had promised her kids and Danny that she would change. Phyllis offered to make peace. Christine declined to accept Phyllis' apology, explaining that she had lived through too many redemptions to believe that Phyllis' latest was for real. Phyllis vowed to change Christine's opinion of her.

Christine bragged that she and Danny were going away on a trip to a cabin for the weekend. Lying, Christine added, "It was his idea. He planned the whole thing." Christine noted that because Phyllis and Danny were so close, she thought Phyllis would have known. Phyllis said she did not know about the getaway.

Christine bragged that she and Danny needed to get away from distractions and focus on each other. Phyllis noted that Danny did not regard her as an off-putting distraction. Christine claimed that Phyllis' statement was proof of her efforts to mark her territory, even if it was not hers to mark. Phyllis noted that Christine still acted as if she was superior to everyone. Christine replied, "Present company, definitely." After Christine left, Phyllis phoned Danny.

Summer entered Crimson Lights and was surprised to see Chance sitting alone at a table. Summer approached and asked Chance what he was doing. Chance said he was reading documents related to Chancellor-Winters. Summer asked about Sharon's launch party. Chance explained that he and Sharon had broken up.

Summer recalled that the last time she had seen Chance and Sharon together, their relationship had seemed to be going well. Chance explained that he and Sharon had realized they wanted different things. Summer nodded sympathetically and replied, "It still hurts, though." Chance agreed and said he hated to miss the launch party because he wished Sharon nothing but success. Summer invited Chance to join her for dinner. Chance smiled.

At Crimson Lights, Summer rambled that she understood if Chance was too busy, but she thought he could use a friend. She suggested that they grab some comfort food and have a laugh. She quickly added that if he needed to work, they could do it another time, and she requested a rain check. Summer started to walk away, but Chance told her that he wouldn't let her off the hook that easily. He declared that comfort food sounded great, and he was starving. They headed out together.

On the coffeehouse patio, Nikki thanked Lauren for meeting her. Lauren ordered her to stop right there, and she demanded to know if Nikki had been drinking again. Nikki swore she hadn't had a drop of alcohol since the night before. She explained that she'd given in to temptation after a bad moment at the office. She insisted it was over, and she was completely sober. Lauren was glad to hear it, but she questioned what would happen ten minutes from then.

Nikki opened her purse to prove she had no hidden flask, and she mentioned that an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting that morning had helped her get back on track. Lauren believed Nikki, but she hoped Nikki understood why she was concerned. Nikki recognized that her behavior had been deplorable, and Lauren stressed that she was frightened for Nikki. Nikki was determined to beat it, noting that she had done it before and would do it again. Lauren clucked that words or meetings alone couldn't make it happen. Nikki pledged to do her "damnedest" to make sure nothing like that ever happened again.

Lauren lamented that it had been heartbreaking to see Nikki in that condition, and it was sheer luck that no one else had witnessed it. Lauren commended Nikki for having incredible strength and pride in her sobriety, but Lauren hadn't seen any of it the night before. Nikki explained that it had been why she hadn't wanted Victor to see her that way, and she apologized for putting Lauren on the spot to make an excuse when he'd called. Lauren recounted that he'd known something had been wrong, and Nikki was grateful that Lauren had kept him from worrying that something terrible had happened.

Lauren countered that something terrible had happened, and she remembered that she'd never been more worried than when Fen had been going through his addiction. Lauren bemoaned that it had been a living nightmare to feel utterly helpless, and Nikki swore the last thing she wanted was to upset Victor. Lauren insisted that she had nothing but compassion for Nikki, and she offered to support Nikki however she could. Lauren made Nikki promise to call her if Nikki was unable to get in touch with her sponsor, and she encouraged Nikki not to suffer alone or let her family suffer any more than they already had.

Nikki hoped she never had to take Lauren up on her offer. Lauren had faith Nikki would get through it, but she reiterated that Nikki could always count on her. Nikki questioned how she could fail with all the support she had. Lauren pointed out that Seth had seemed very concerned, and she was sure he'd be available whenever Nikki needed. Nikki considered herself lucky to have found him, and she recalled that they'd traded success stories at meetings over the years. Nikki was grateful that he'd agreed to be her sponsor and that he'd made it easy for her to reach out once she'd realized she was in trouble.

Lauren compared it to the mutual understanding Nikki had shared with Neil and Katherine. Nikki recognized that it was almost impossible to understand addiction unless one had experienced it personally, and while Lauren had gone through a lot with Fen, it hadn't been the same thing. Lauren mentioned that Fen was very close with his sponsor and that they'd even spent Christmas together. Nikki didn't think things were like that for her and Seth, but she was grateful he was there for her. Seth walked through the door.

Seth said it was good to see both Nikki and Lauren. Nikki regretted not thanking him at the hotel suite because she'd been out of it. Seth was glad to see her looking better, and he pledged as her sponsor to help her get back to stable sobriety. Nikki noted that she hadn't seen Seth at the meeting that morning. He stifled a yawn and claimed he was under the weather. He added that he was on his way to a late meeting, and Nikki urged him to go home and rest afterward. Seth stressed that he always left his phone on in case she needed anything. After he headed into the coffeehouse, Nikki worriedly asked if Seth had seemed okay to Lauren.

At Society, Summer prompted Chance to order all his favorites. He proclaimed that it would be everything on the menu, and she suggested they start with a drink to distract him from what was going on in his mind. He assured her that he didn't need a game plan devoted to cheering him up, but she figured that good food and wine would help pass the time until he was ready to process everything. Chance admitted that he'd been caught off guard because he'd thought things with Sharon had been going well, but part of him felt it was for the best. Summer empathized that it still hurt.

Chance insisted that he wasn't bitter or angry, and he hoped he and Sharon could continue to be friends once the initial awkwardness passed. Summer praised his mature attitude, and she compared it to how she and Kyle tried to remain positive and civil for Harrison's sake. Chance imagined it was tougher for her because her relationship with Kyle had been deeper and longer, so there was a lot more pain to get past. Chance advised her that from his experience, it just took time to really figure out what the future looked like. Summer reminded him that they were there to cheer him up, and she recommended that they get some drinks going.

Summer sensed that Chance and Sharon's breakup hadn't just happened that day, and she guessed that the couple had already ended things when Summer had last seen him. Chance explained that he had still been a little raw, and he hadn't been ready to bare his soul. Summer asked if he was ready then, but he replied that he'd rather talk about anything else. He turned the topic to the wardrobe tips she'd given him, and she bragged that her shopping spree had saved his career. She teased that it meant he had to trust her judgment about all things going forward, and he joked that he clearly had no choice.

As Summer and Chance exited the restaurant, she remarked that the clothes were nice, but it was the man inside that made all the difference. He said he had to get going, since he couldn't show up to work ragged from hanging out too late. She didn't want to be responsible if he got fired his first week on the job, and she murmured that the evening had been nice. He suggested they do it again soon.

At Daniel's apartment, Daniel apologized to Danny for Lucy blasting her music. Danny mentioned that he'd already asked her to send him her playlist, and he expressed shock that he wasn't on it. Daniel thanked Danny for humoring her by asking for her list, but Danny admitted that he'd really gotten into some of it. Danny added that he never knew where he'd find motivation to stay on the cutting edge.

Danny's phone chimed with multiple text messages, and Daniel guessed from his father's smile that they were from Christine. Danny read a message from Phyllis, asking if he had a minute to talk. Meanwhile, Phyllis paced in her hotel room and willed Danny to get back to her. Phyllis convinced herself that Christine was with him right then, taking shots at Phyllis to make herself feel better. "Oh, no, Christine. That is not going to work. I refuse to let the Bug come between me and Danny ever, ever again," Phyllis pledged.

Phyllis searched her dresser drawers and pulled out some sexy lingerie. She gazed into a mirror and held a bra up next to her body. She mused that Danny had given her no choice, but she didn't mind one bit. Phyllis changed into the skimpy lingerie and smiled as she put on nothing but a trench coat over it.

Back at Daniel's place, Lucy entered the room and announced that she was hungry. Danny offered to whip her up something, but Lucy cited a specific craving for grilled cheese the way her mom made it. Daniel protested that Lucy didn't have to go all the way over to her mother's place for a sandwich, but Lucy clarified that Heather was on her way there. Lucy stepped into the kitchen to make sure they had everything they needed. Danny observed that things had escalated fast, and Daniel figured that it would make Lucy happy.

Danny inquired whether it made Daniel happy to have Heather on her way. Daniel reasoned that he hadn't been able to tell Lucy she couldn't call her mom. Danny noted that Heather had been spending as much time there as she had been at her own place, and he wondered how that made Daniel feel. Daniel vehemently denied that anything more than co-parenting was going on, but he sensed that Lucy might have an agenda of her own. Danny surmised that it was thrilling for the teen to have both her parents in the same town, but splitting her time between them required some adjustment.

Daniel regretted that Lucy had been through a lot because of him. Danny believed it was reassuring for her to have family time with both Daniel and Heather, the way it had been before. Daniel pointed out that it was the opposite for him to have both Danny and Phyllis in town, which was kind of terrifying. Daniel remembered the times in his parents' history when they'd been at one another's throats, and he claimed that it had left an indelible mark on his young mind. Danny's phone chimed again, and he read a message from Phyllis, who asked to speak with him in person at the jazz lounge.

Danny accepted Phyllis' invitation while Daniel answered the door. Danny greeted Heather on his way out, and Daniel asked where his father was going. Danny responded that he wouldn't be long, and he left. Daniel apologized that Lucy had dragged Heather out. Heather insisted that she was happy her daughter still wanted to hang out with her boring old mom. Daniel swore that Heather wasn't old and boring, but he advised her not to let Lucy take advantage.

Heather exclaimed that she lived for moments like that, since those days wouldn't last forever, and it was her pleasure to make Lucy anything she wanted. Lucy returned to the room and stopped in her tracks. Heather noted the guilty look on her daughter's face, and Lucy reported that they didn't have any cheese. Daniel incredulously asked if there was anything they could substitute, and Lucy suggested peanut butter and bananas.

Later, Lucy chirped that hot chocolate and marshmallows always helped her fall asleep, and she wished her parents goodnight. After Lucy headed to bed, Heather offered to wash the dishes, but Daniel protested that she didn't have to clean when she'd already cooked. He figured he owed her after she'd dropped everything at their daughter's request, but he had the feeling Lucy liked hanging out with them like old times. Heather softly stated that Lucy wasn't the only one. Heather assumed that Daniel had already noticed, but she offered to say it out loud -- she was falling in love with him all over again.

At the jazz lounge, Phyllis thanked Danny for meeting her and presented him with a drink. He inquired about the big urgency, but she requested a favor first. She referred to the song she'd helped inspire, and she asked that he play it for her. Danny argued that he hadn't finished the lyrics yet, and he assured her he was there if she wanted to talk. She pleaded with him to hear the song first. Phyllis explained that it made her feel like everything would work out the way it should, since his music inspired her. Danny crossed over to the piano and began to play. Phyllis retrieved her phone from her purse and smiled as she began to film him.

As Danny finished the song, Phyllis tucked her phone back into her purse and applauded enthusiastically. She marveled that it had been amazing, but he pushed her to tell him what was really bothering her. He guessed it had something to do with Tucker, since Danny had seen her with Tucker on New Year's Eve. Danny warned that Tucker had a reputation for being nothing but trouble, and he hoped Phyllis and Tucker weren't seeing one another. Phyllis asked if he thought it would be a mistake for her to be involved, but Danny hesitated to judge.

Phyllis confirmed that she didn't see a future with Tucker, since he didn't sweep her off her feet the way Danny did. She complained it was hot and pulled at her coat, exposing her bra and plenty of skin. She purred that when she had passion with someone, she couldn't let it go, and she huskily asked if he remembered the passion they'd had. Danny stammered that he did, but it hadn't necessarily been good. "Yes, it was. It was all good," Phyllis seductively contended as her coat slipped down her shoulder.

Phyllis thought she and Danny could have that fire and heat between them again if they tried. His phone pinged, and she whispered not to get it. Danny checked his phone and flipped out. Meanwhile, Christine sat at the Athletic Club bar, fuming as she watched a video of Phyllis smiling knowingly into the camera as Danny played the piano. "[That feeling when] your ex plays you a love song," Phyllis had captioned.

Danny demanded to know why Phyllis had posted the video with that particular note. Feigning innocence, Phyllis claimed that the song was beautiful, and she'd wanted the world to hear it. She wrote off his fury as him making a big deal out of nothing. Danny barked that Daniel had been right to be worried about Danny and Phyllis being in the same town together. Danny warned her not to try to play him because they both knew she'd posted the video to make everyone think there was something going on between them when she knew that wasn't the case. He accused her of not having changed at all.

Danny spat that Phyllis was still up to the same tricks, playing games and manipulating lives to suit her own agenda. Phyllis defended that she wasn't the one playing games -- it was his "precious Christine." Phyllis relayed that Christine had taken great pleasure in telling her that Christine and Danny were going on a romantic trip together. Danny was irked that the women were at it again, but Phyllis pointed out that he knew how much it hurt when Christine went after her like that. Danny scoffed at the idea that Phyllis had been an innocent bystander, but she recalled that she'd been trying to apologize when Christine had thrown the trip in her face to make her feel like dirt.

Danny doubted it had happened out of the blue, but Phyllis defended that she couldn't help if Christine felt threatened by her. Danny begged Phyllis to tell him she hadn't mentioned that she'd kissed him. Phyllis clarified that Danny had kissed her, too, but she confirmed that she hadn't thrown it in Christine's face the way Christine had done to her. Phyllis crowed that she'd shown restraint, but Danny argued that posting the video hadn't shown any restraint. Phyllis thought the bigger part of the story was the fact Danny hadn't told Christine about the kiss.

Danny reasoned that it wouldn't have accomplished anything other than upsetting Christine and fueling the rivalry between the women even further. Phyllis suspected there was another reason Danny hadn't told Christine -- he had liked the kiss, and it had meant something to him. Danny griped that Phyllis had purposely misread the whole thing and twisted it into what she wanted it to be. Phyllis taunted that he didn't want to face it or admit it to himself, but it was written all over his face and showed in his body language that he was happy and comfortable around her, whereas, he was tense and on edge with Christine.

Phyllis imagined Danny always felt like he was going to say something to "scare the little bug off," but Danny retorted that she had no clue what she was talking about. Danny stormed over to the bar and ordered a scotch, and Phyllis followed him. She lectured that he was working hard to make it look like he and Christine were so in sync, but it was all an act. Danny ordered Phyllis to back off and stop pretending she knew his feelings better than he did.

Phyllis leaned in close and breathlessly stated that she always trusted her instincts, and they never led her astray. She encouraged Danny to trust them, too. "I know what I know, and I know this," Phyllis asserted as she pulled him into a kiss. Danny didn't resist, and their embrace grew more passionate. Christine descended the stairs and spied them together.

Christine tells Danny he needs to decide who he wants to date

Snow fell on Genoa City as Victoria sat in the Newman home and remembered the conversation she'd had with Claire just before Claire had confronted her Aunt Jordan. Victor joined her, and Victoria gave him an update. She expressed her fears about not being able to help her daughter. Victoria told Victor about Claire's mood following the confrontation and that Claire was back at Memorial Hospital. Victor remained worried about Victoria, who expressed her desire to get to know Claire and prove to her that she was deserving of love.

Victor commiserated with Victoria and talked about his struggles to create and maintain a good relationship with Adam. Victor reminded Victoria that Claire was also a victim and that her hurt "will not wash away overnight." Victoria was realistic as she acknowledged that getting Claire to trust her and Cole could take a long time. Victor was concerned that seeing Jordan again could have reignited feelings of loyalty in Claire.

Victoria assured Victor that Claire was finished with Jordan, then she asked her father not to hold a grudge. He wondered about the quality of care Claire was getting, but Victoria couldn't be sure because, as an adult, Claire's sessions were private.

Victor asked Victoria how it felt to have Cole back in her life after so many years. Victoria said that Cole had been wonderful and reassuring. Victoria told Victor she and Cole wanted to see it through, but Victor was concerned that Victoria's absence at work would have a ripple effect. "Do you miss me at Newman?" Victoria asked her father. He took a moment to ponder then smiled and said, "What do you think?" Victor assured Victoria that he understood why she needed to take a leave of absence and that she was an invaluable part of Newman Enterprises.

At Crimson Lights, Lauren and Nikki continued their conversation. Nikki was concerned that her sponsor, Seth, was drinking again, and Nikki blamed herself. Lauren tried to shut that down when she said, "You don't get to blame yourself. Even if you're right and Seth is drinking, you're not responsible for his actions." Nikki admitted her struggle with the bottle was difficult. "The only thing we have to do is not drink, but that's a very tall order," Nikki said, then dreaded the thought that she might have been the cause of her sponsor's falling off the wagon. Lauren said she would hate if misguided guilt caused Nikki to stumble again.

Lauren asked what she could do to help Nikki, but Jack walked in before Nikki could answer. He wondered if he had interrupted them. Nikki told Jack that she had to get home. Lauren offered to drive her, but Nikki declined then left. Jack wondered if Nikki was okay. He told Lauren he didn't want to intrude if it was a private matter, but as friend to both Lauren and Nikki, he wanted to help. Lauren told Jack that Michael was out of town and that she could use some advice.

Lauren swore Jack to confidentiality. Then, she told Jack that Nikki was in trouble, and he deduced that Nikki was drinking again. They agreed to meet at Jack's house to discuss the matter more privately.

Christine caught Danny and Phyllis kissing at the jazz lounge. She walked away upstairs just before Danny pushed Phyllis away. "You cannot keep doing this. I cannot follow you down this road, Phyllis," Danny told her. Phyllis accused Danny of enjoying the kiss just as much as she had. Danny insisted he was not interested in pursuing things with Phyllis. When Phyllis claimed to have changed, Danny said that posting the video of his performance of the new love song was a sign that Phyllis hadn't changed at all.

Phyllis didn't relent. She called Danny out for not stopping the kiss or pushing her away. Danny said he'd been caught off guard and that it wouldn't happen again. Phyllis dismissed the posting of the video because people posted videos of rock stars all the time. Danny stopped Phyllis and insisted that they could not do "this." "It doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel right. Maybe some version of friends, for Daniel's sake, but anything else? No. Never" He walked away, up the stairs.

Christine rewatched the video, upset. Then, she texted Nina and asked if they could meet. Danny found Christine. She told Danny that she had seen him kissing Phyllis. Danny told her that Phyllis set him up. He admitted that Christine was right that Phyllis had not changed. Danny admitted that he'd been foolish for giving Phyllis the benefit of the doubt. Christine said, "I saw the kiss. It didn't look to me like you were set up at all."

Danny admitted to being naïve in expecting Phyllis to back off. Christine insisted she would not compete with Phyllis for Danny's attention. Nina replied to Christine's text. Christine asked Nina to meet her at Society. Danny asked Christine to go somewhere and talk. Christine declined and said, "You need to figure out what the hell you want, and you need to do that without me." When Danny claimed he did know what he wanted, Christine responded, "The kiss I witnessed tells me you're not sure." As she left, Christine walked right past and ignored a newly arrived Phyllis.

Nikki arrived home and saw Victoria and Victor talking. Victor noted Nikki's agitation, so Nikki explained that she'd run into Seth and suspected he was drinking and that it was her fault. Victor stopped her. He and Victoria told her that Nikki had no power over the alcohol or Seth's actions, but Nikki was adamant that she was Seth's trigger. Nikki insisted that she was not overreacting and that the support in a support group worked both ways.

At the Abbott home, Lauren confirmed to Jack that Nikki was, in fact, drinking again but that the alcohol had originally been forced upon her. Lauren explained that she felt she was in over her head because Nikki thought Seth was drinking again, and she was blaming herself for it. Jack explained that Nikki couldn't see things logically while in the throes of addiction. Lauren told Jack that Nikki needed someone who was an addict to give her support. "You're asking me to step in, aren't you?" Jack asked Lauren.

Jack was reluctant to help because he didn't want to jeopardize Lauren's relationship with Nikki by revealing what he knew. Instead, Jack agreed to try to spend some time with Nikki, and he hoped the subject would come up on its own.

At Society, Christine told Nina how close she was to seeing where things might go with Danny. Nina noted her expression. "I only know one person who could put that look in your eye, like you could commit murder," Nina surmised. Christine told Nina about how Phyllis had posted a video of Danny playing her a song and had captioned the video "That feeling when your ex plays you a love song." Nina visibly cringed.

Christine told Nina about the kiss she had witnessed. Nina played devil's advocate and suggested that Phyllis had staged the whole thing and lured Christine with the video. Christine was skeptical of that, but Nina reminded her of how conniving Phyllis was. Christine told Nina. "There's just one thing -- you didn't see the way he kissed her back." Christine told Nina that she refused to get hurt again. "I'm just gonna end things before I get in any deeper," Christine said.

Jack offers to help Nikki and later names a new co-CEO at Jabot

At the Abbott home, Diane noted that Jack was worried about something. Jack told Diane that he had a friend who was struggling with something and that he might have to help. Diane told Jack that she wouldn't pry, but Jack wanted there to be no more secrets between them. Jack told Diane that before he could confide in her, he had to admit something about himself.

Jack told Diane that, years earlier, he had become addicted to painkillers during his recovery from a gunshot wound. Jack was disgusted with himself for all the lies, secrets, guilt, and shame that had occurred during his attempts to hide his addiction. Diane asked Jack where Kyle had been during that dark time. Jack told her it was Kyle who had leaked the story of Jack's addiction to a gossip column, to serve as a wake-up call to his father.

Jack told Diane that Neil and Phyllis had helped him through his withdrawal. Diane assured Jack that, despite her dislike of Phyllis, she was glad Phyllis had been there to help Jack when he'd needed it. He then told Diane that the friend who was in trouble was Nikki.

Jack told Diane that Nikki had relapsed before and had persevered, but that "this time," Nikki's sponsor had also slipped. Jack told Diane about how Lauren had asked him to help Nikki, due to Jack's "insider's perspective."

Diane wanted to know what had caused Nikki's relapse. Jack told Diane that Lauren had only given him part of the story. Jack asked if Diane had a problem with him helping Nikki. Diane assured Jack that she wouldn't get in the way of anyone's recovery. Diane then expressed concern that if Jack helped Nikki, it could reawaken his own addiction. "Absolutely not," Jack assured her, then Diane pledged Jack her full support.

Nikki arrived at her office and found Seth going through her desk's drawers. Seth explained that because she had neither answered his calls nor replied to his texts, he'd been afraid Nikki was drinking again. He apologized for having overstepped, but Nikki turned the accusation back on him. "I'm not the only one who's started drinking again, am I?" Nikki asked Seth.

Seth told Nikki he was worried after she'd contacted him then not replied to his attempts at communication. Nikki remarked that Seth had promised to respond quickly to a request for help, but he hadn't. Seth asked if Nikki was deflecting and if she'd been drinking that day. Nikki declared her sobriety then accused Seth of being the one to use evasion, a tactic at which she was an expert.

Seth swore he had gone to Nikki's office to check on her, but Nikki didn't buy it. Seth then admitted that he had, in fact, fallen, something he hadn't done in years. Nikki asked if Seth had been to a meeting. When Seth asked if they could go together, Nikki reminded him that they couldn't help each other and that she could no longer rely on him as her sponsor.

Nikki advised Seth to call his sponsor. Seth pleaded with Nikki that despite his status as her sponsor being off the table, he still needed her as a friend. Nikki told Seth that her sobriety was too precarious for her to be around him. As Seth pleaded with Nikki to reconsider, Audra entered the office. She apologized for interrupting, but Nikki told her that Seth was just leaving. Seth took the hint and apologized as he left. "I'm sorry I let you down, Nikki," Seth said. Nikki replied, "Don't worry about me. You take care of yourself, and I'll do the same."

Nikki thanked Audra for sharing information about the struggle Audra's father had faced with alcoholism. Then, she confided in Audra that Seth was Nikki's sponsor, that he'd been drinking, and that she feared her rejection of him would send Seth further down into a spiral. Audra offered to help.

Nikki remarked on the heretofore unseen thoughtful side of Audra. Audra admitted to ambitiously prioritizing her work and career, but that "this" was her "one and only soft spot." "I don't know if I believe that," Nikki replied then thanked Audra for her offer to help. At that moment, Nikki received a text from Jack. He asked her to meet him at his house.

Kyle ran into Tucker at Society. Kyle asked if Tucker still planned to go after him. Tucker nonchalantly said, "Nah," and that he had just been angry after Kyle had punched him. Tucker suggested that the next time Kyle wanted to brawl, they should "put on the gloves and step in the ring." Kyle replied, "I'm not looking for any more fistfights, but if you twist my arm enough, maybe I'll make an exception for you."

Tucker invited Kyle to sit down with him so that they could clear the air between them. Kyle was skeptical. Tucker said he had grown to respect Kyle and admired Kyle's loyalty to the Abbott family. Kyle wondered why Tucker had let him play out the plot to take Tucker down if he had been aware of Kyle being a double agent the whole time. Tucker confessed that he had hoped the information Kyle had relayed to his family would have kept the Abbotts guessing and caused them to turn on each other.

Tucker also admitted that if Kyle had provided him with anything really useful, that would have been a bonus. Kyle pointed out that Tucker's master plan had failed -- that the Abbotts hadn't turn on each other, that Kyle had given up nothing of value, and that the leak of the cover-up scandal had done serious damage to Tucker's reputation.

Tucker asked Kyle what it was about the Abbott family that inspired such loyalty and devotion. Kyle was smooth and smug as he noted that Tucker's son wasn't speaking to him and that Tucker had no idea how to be a good parent or part of a family. Kyle went on to say that the only relationship Tucker had been able to maintain was "the twisted one" he had with Audra. Kyle called Tucker's relationship with Audra "transactional," and he said that once Audra realized she could be rich and powerful without him, she would drop Tucker.

Kyle told Tucker, "Family loyalty is a mystery to you because you only know how to burn bridges, not build them." Tucker posited that the Abbotts were just as mean-spirited and aggressive as anyone he'd ever known. He suggested that the Abbotts needed a common enemy so that they wouldn't turn on each other.

Tucker challenged Kyle, "Look me in the eye and tell me at no point did you want to throw in with me in exchange for the top spot at Jabot." Kyle didn't respond immediately. Tucker smiled and said, "Never mind. I guess there's really nothing to admire about the Abbotts." Then, he added, "By the way, I'm still comin' for you."

Diane left the Abbott home as Nikki arrived. Jack tried to play it off that he was merely concerned about the Newman family's recent ordeal, but Nikki shut down what she called his "fishing expedition." Nikki accused, "Jack, I know you're a good liar, but you're not that good. Lauren told you everything, didn't she?"

Jack admitted that Lauren was worried about Nikki. He offered "24/7 support" to Nikki and assured her that she would not be a burden. "Why is this so important to you?" Nikki asked Jack. "Because I care about you," Jack replied. Jack added, "And there's another reason. Because when you first started drinking, we were married, and I did not handle it well at all." Jack told Nikki he still carried a lot of guilt about that. Jack told Nikki he would be there for her, day or night. "Let me be the one you call," he asked.

Audra went to the Athletic Club, where Tucker approached her. Tucker apologized for disappointing her and hoped she wouldn't stay angry. Audra told him it wasn't about anger but that she wanted to distance herself from Tucker's toxicity. Tucker told Audra that he still had big plans for her at Glissade. "Count me out," Audra declared. She asked Tucker if he had finally turned his back on Ashley once and for all.

Tucker told Audra his feelings for Ashley would have no impact on his and Audra's working relationship. Audra didn't buy that. She identified Ashley as being Tucker's Achilles heel and said that Ashley was the reason Tucker hadn't anticipated the Abbotts would leak the cover-up scandal. Audra told Tucker, "You refuse to accept that she's not the one you should be with," to which he responded, "Who do you think I should be with?"

Audra accused Tucker of thinking she was about to name herself because they were two selfish people who put their ambitions first and didn't let anger get between them. "But I like to think I still have a shred of humanity, and I'd like to cling to that before you destroy it in me," Audra said. Tucker tried to protest, but Audra cut him off. She said, "So, who do I think you should be with? I'm beginning to believe that your fate is to be utterly alone." Audra grabbed her things and abruptly left.

Diane met Kyle for lunch at Society. Kyle told his mother he was no longer interested in replacing Billy at Jabot. Kyle was concerned that his pride and sense of entitlement had almost made him betray his family to Tucker. Kyle considered the temptation as "a bullet dodged" and said it was not the time to take on the co-CEO position. Kyle admitted that he'd found his COO position rewarding and that he had a good idea about who Jack should give the job as co-CEO. "You," he told his mother. "No," Diane told her son. She reminded Kyle of the pushback that had ensued after Jack had named her chief talent officer.

Kyle insisted he was right about it. "You are the one who should be replacing Billy, and I'm gonna make sure Dad agrees," Kyle declared, just as Jack arrived at Society. When the subject of the job came up, Diane and Kyle tried to speak up at the same time, but Jack insisted upon speaking first. Jack sang Kyle's recent praises, but as he was about to announce a name, Kyle interrupted his father and told him he should give the job to Diane. "How did you know that?" Jack asked. Diane tried to defer, but Jack agreed with Kyle and said, "It is the dawn of a new era at Jabot."

Nikki, alone in her office, called Lauren. Nikki asked, "Can we meet? We need to talk."

Victoria and Claire have a breakthrough

Victoria and Claire have a breakthrough

Friday, January 19, 2024

At Memorial Hospital, Claire dreamed that Jordan taunted her as she slept. "I'm a part of you. You're a part of me. We're just alike, you and I. You can't escape me," Jordan said menacingly. Claire awoke with a gasp and saw Victoria standing at the foot of her bed. "It's okay. You're not alone," Victoria comforted her daughter.

When Claire calmed, Victoria said that she was proud of Claire for having confronted her Aunt Jordan. Claire sat silent on the side of the bed, hunched over slightly, and averting eye contact with Victoria. Victoria sat down beside Claire, but Claire continued to look down at the floor. Victoria asked Claire if her goal of getting some resolution had been achieved. Claire told her mother that having seen Jordan as a prisoner, she had felt a moment of relief that "justice was being served," and that perhaps it had been the start of something new -- that Claire could focus on her recovery with her therapy team. Claire, however, was unsure. Claire said, "I know the worst of it's behind me, but there's still so much to do. It scares me."

Claire explained to Victoria that the therapists had called her "brave" and had compared the damage Jordan had done to a cancer that had to be cut out and replaced with healthy thoughts and behaviors. She said they'd told her that the healing process would not take place overnight. Victoria agreed then praised Claire for the progress she had already made.

Claire wondered about her life beyond recovery and what would come next if she was ever released from the hospital, "What happens to me then?" she asked her mother. Victoria told Claire that they would take things slowly, at Claire's pace, until Claire decided whether she wanted to be a part of the family.

Claire reminded Victoria that she had already studied the Newmans while preparing to carry out Jordan's plans and while she had worked for Nikki. "You guys all hold some terrible grudges against each other," Claire observed. "Not all of us," replied Victoria. Claire called the Newmans "cold and spiteful -- and even worse with strangers." Victoria told Claire she should form her own new opinion, without relying on the Internet -- or the news or Jordan's "warped perspective."

Claire asked Victoria if she could end up a part of the Newman family. Victoria responded, "That would be my hope," to which Claire asked," What about my dad? Would he be a part of my new life, too?"

Victoria tried to get through to Claire. Victoria told Claire that she and Cole both wanted to be a part of Claire's life. She asked Claire to start seeing the things Claire had done not as her own actions but as actions that were a result of what Jordan had done to her, because that was how Victoria and Cole saw things. Claire relented a bit. "You'll be good parents, but what about me? Do I even know how to be someone's daughter?" Claire wondered.

Victoria again praised Claire on the progress she has made then begged Claire to let them try to help and to make up for the time they had all lost. Victoria acknowledged that Claire would be making a frightening leap of faith. "You can lean on me," Victoria promised, and Claire, welling up, grabbed her mother and held her tight.

At the end of Claire and Victoria's embrace, Claire said she needed to get ready for her next therapy session. Victoria asked if she and Cole could continue to visit, and Claire nodded her assent. Victoria left with a tentative sense of relief and hope.

Cole received a "private summons" for a meeting with Victor at the Newman mansion. Cole visited the Newman ranch. "I wondered when you'd wanna lay down the law," Cole mused as he took a seat on the sofa. The remark apparently tickled Victor, who burst into a fit of laughter. Victor assured Cole that he had not summoned Cole to "lay down the law." Since Cole was a father, after so many years of having thought his child had been lost, Victor asked him directly, "What are your intentions with regard to Claire?"

Cole told Victor he planned to provide all the help he could to Claire but that he had to do it step by step, without rushing things. Victor asked if Cole planned to put his career on hold. Cole explained that he was already on sabbatical in order to work on his book, which he could do from anywhere, so he would not be returning to Oxford.

Cole explained to Victor that if Claire needed him at her side, he would be there for her, and if Claire needed him to maintain some distance, he would. Either way, Cole planned to be a part of his daughter's life. Victor asked Cole if that meant he planned to move back to Genoa City. "For the time being," Cole replied, then he asked Victor, "What steps do you plan to take?"

Victor was concerned that Cole hadn't been around Genoa City for a couple of decades. Cole told Victor that there was nothing in his past that Victor needed to be worried about. Victor asked if Cole was ready to take on parental responsibility, since he had never raised a child. Cole told Victor that because Claire had been hurt by Cole's mother, Eve, and his Aunt Jordan, he had no choice but to help his daughter heal. Victor empathized with Cole but admonished him and said, "As much as you're concerned about your daughter, I am concerned about mine."

Lauren went to Nikki's office. She assumed Nikki had already spoken to Jack about Nikki's relapse. Lauren explained that she understood how Nikki might feel betrayed, but she stood by her actions, out of concern for Nikki. "We just want you healthy, safe, and sober," Lauren explained. Lauren insisted that she would do the same thing again if given the chance.

Nikki admitted she was angry, but only with herself for having dragged her family into her own personal hell. Lauren insisted that Nikki had to focus on her recovery and not to be worried about the family.

Nikki assured Lauren that she hadn't had a drink since Lauren had rescued her. Lauren commended Nikki on "winning the day-to-day battle" but reminded her that the war was not yet over. Lauren told Nikki that because Seth was losing his own battle, she thought Jack was in a better position to help Nikki.

Nikki was reluctant to involve Jack. "Again, I would be dragging a dear friend into my chaos," Nikki lamented. Lauren refuted that. She told Nikki, "A dear friend cannot be dragged. A dear friend stands by your side and fights along with you!" Lauren reminded Nikki that Jack had needed help once, and he had an opportunity to pay that forward. Nikki was concerned about what effect turning to Jack might have on Victor.

Lauren reminded Nikki that she was the priority in the situation, as opposed to Victor's reaction to Nikki choosing Jack to be her sponsor. Nikki said that Victor would rather help her himself, but Lauren told Nikki that Victor could not fill that role and that Nikki needed a sponsor like Jack, who understood addiction and had beaten it.

At the Abbott home, Jack wished Ashley a good morning, but she was lost in thought. When asked about it, Ashley told Jack that Tucker was still trying to convince her that he had not gotten violent at the Parisian café. Jack told his sister that the way to shut Tucker down was to stay away from him.

Ashley told Jack that avoiding Tucker was going to be impossible. Jack quickly vetoed her suggestion that she leave town. Ashley couldn't understand why Tucker was trying to make her doubt her sanity. Jack said the family wouldn't be rid of Tucker unless he was out of Ashley's life for good. Ashley agreed. She said, "I've gotta talk to him. I've gotta settle this whole thing, once and for all," then she quickly left.

Billy and Devon discussed business as they shared breakfast at the Athletic Club. Tucker walked in, approached them, then said snidely, "Look at this! The new Chancellor-Winters power couple!" Tucker said he was flattered that Billy and Devon felt so threatened by him that they had to "circle the wagons." Billy described Tucker as a "vicious, amoral corporate raider."

Tucker told Billy and Devon that he was solely focused on Glissade. Billy said he was surprised that Glissade was even still in existence after the cover-up scandal. Tucker informed Billy that the entire board of directors at Glissade had been replaced. Devon looked unconvinced when Tucker reiterated his plan to concentrate exclusively on Glissade.

Tucker told Billy that he had no intention of hurting Chancellor-Winters because Devon and Dominic were family, and he didn't want to destroy their legacy. Billy was skeptical. Echoing Tucker's snide attitude, Billy asked Tucker, "If you do want to turn Glissade into a powerhouse, why don't you do it from Paris?" Tucker didn't respond. Instead, he left and started to head upstairs, but Ashley walked into the Athletic Club and asked to speak with him.

Billy asked Devon if he bought Tucker's claim about no longer seeking revenge. "No. Not even a little bit," Devon replied. Devon suspected that Tucker was just waiting for them to lose focus, so Devon and Billy should just stay on guard. Devon asked if Billy wanted to check on Ashley and Tucker, and, despite wanting to defend his sister, Billy told Devon he knew that Ashley preferred to handle things on her own.

Lauren asked if Victor's reaction to Jack was Nikki's only concern. "You need a knowledgeable, experienced A.A. member who is currently sober," Lauren told Nikki. Nikki was still reluctant to let Jack in more than Victor, because she knew it would hurt Victor's feelings. Nikki suggested it would be better to lean on Jack privately. Lauren balked at the idea and told Nikki, "I don't think starting this with a secret is your best option." At that moment, Victor walked in.

Nikki and Lauren put on fake smiles as Nikki told Victor she had just been thanking Lauren for being a good friend. Nikki asked Victor why he had stopped by. Victor told his wife he wanted to take her to lunch. He invited Lauren to join them, but she declined and cited work obligations. Lauren expressed her admiration for Nikki. This time, the women's smiles were genuine.

Lauren stopped by Jack's. Jack apologized for having been unable to keep her name out of the conversation he'd had with Nikki. Lauren assured Jack that Nikki didn't blame either of them. Lauren urged Jack not to give up, because what he had said to Nikki might have hit home. Lauren told him that Nikki could see the value in having a friend be her sponsor. "I can't think of anyone better to fill the role," Lauren said.

Victor took Nikki to lunch at Society. He told her about his conversation with Cole and that he was concerned that Eve Howard's son would be moving back to town. Victor expressed worry that Cole's plans were so vague and that Cole would be close to Victoria again.

Nikki told Victor that he shouldn't worry about Victoria and Cole rekindling a romance because Victoria was totally focused on Claire's recovery. Victor wondered what would happen if Victoria and Cole wanted to provide a family life for their daughter. Nikki admitted that that was a possibility, but she thought Victor was getting ahead of himself. Victor dismissed that and asked Nikki if it could be another in Victoria's recent string of doomed relationships.

Victoria and Cole met for coffee at Crimson Lights. She told him about her visit with Claire and that, for the first time, she'd been able to see a bit of hope in their daughter's eyes. Cole felt optimistic, and Victoria told him that Claire had hugged her. Victoria smiled and said, "For the first time, I truly feel like we're gonna get our daughter back."

Cole was amazed at the breakthrough Victoria had had with Claire and wished that he had been there to see it. Victoria told him that Claire had agreed to let them visit her.

Cole told Victoria that he had met with Victor. After Victoria voiced her opinion about her father's interfering ways, Cole told her that things could have gone a lot worse. He told Victoria that Victor had accepted the idea of Cole's staying in town and that Victor was also open to the idea of Claire becoming part of the family. Cole admitted to having something in common with Victor: the desire to protect their daughters. Victoria was determined and said, "We'll protect her together."

Ashley led Tucker downstairs to the jazz lounge. She told him to stop playing mind games and admit what had really happened in Paris. Tucker maintained that Ashley had created "a fantasy," for some reason. He asked her why. Tucker accused Ashley of having a problem with commitment and suggested that when they had been standing at the altar, things had gotten "too real," so Ashley had needed to figure a way out.

Tucker suggested that Ashley had tried to save face after having been unable to commit to him and that she had convinced herself that he was "the bad guy" and completely to blame. Ashley called him out and said, "Here we go, psychoanalyzing me again!"

Ashley told Tucker to go, but he turned back and said, "Ashley, you could have such an incredible life, but that life will always be out of reach for you because you won't let yourself have it."
